Prawn Watch is a citizen science project aimed at increasing the communitys understanding of prawns in Western Australias Swan and Canning rivers. It complements the research program - which includes culturing the Western School Prawn for release and understanding the factors limiting recruitment - and encourages community engagement through data collection, information sharing and the promotion of river friendly activities and sustainable fishing practices.
This App allows the community to record and upload catch data to a River Guardians database. This information will then be assessed by the projects researchers and the results will be shared with the community.
The Department of Parks and Wildlife has partnered with Challenger Institute, Murdoch University, the WA Fish Foundation, Recfishwest, the Department of Fisheries and the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation to deliver Prawn Watch, a restocking and research program. We also acknowledge the support of Murdoch Universitys Coastal Walkabout initiative.
This app was developed by Gaia Resources with input from the River Guardians program.
